Cornerstone Surgery Center

Appointments

Welcome to Cornerstone Surgery Center, a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center, where surgeons perform a broad range of outpatient surgical procedures. Our center offers a safe, convenient, high quality alternative to inpatient hospitalization. We are fully licensed by both the State of Texas and the federal Medicare program. To make your upcoming visit as comfortable as possible, please review the following information.

A deposit will be required at the time of admission which represents that portion of the facility charge not reimbursed by your insurance company. MasterCard and VISA are accepted. If special arrangements are necessary, please call prior to admission.

Before You Come

A staff member will call you before your scheduled surgery to discuss any questions and confirm your appointment. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions, and be sure to inform the staff of any special needs.

DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the day before your visit, including gum or candy. This also applies if you are having a local anesthetic. Food in the stomach can cause serious complications and your surgery could be cancelled or postponed if you do not comply. If your child is the patient, please be careful to enforce this.

Take all routine medication the morning of surgery with only a sip of water, unless instructed otherwise by your doctor. Do not take:

  • Herbal supplements & Metabolife for 14 days before surgery.
  • Oral hypoglycemics the day of surgery.
  • AM insulin the day of surgery, unless instructed.
  • Blood thinners / aspirin products / NSAIDS

Call your surgeon if you develop a cold, fever or respiratory problems before your surgery.

For women, if there is any possibility that you are pregnant, please notify your surgeon.

For your safety, you must arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery. That person is welcome to stay at the center during your procedure, or we can contact them when you are ready to be picked up.

If your child is required by law to sit in a car seat, please be sure it is in your car when you arrive. The child will only be discharged if the car seat is used.

Day of Surgery

  • Bathe or shower the morning of your surgery to minimize the chance of infection.
  • Women should remove all make-up and nail polish.
  • Do not wear contact lenses.
  • Wear loose, casual clothing and low-heeled shoes. Tight-fitting pants are particularly uncomfortable after certain surgeries.
  • Arrive one hour before your scheduled time. This will allow adequate time for all necessary admission procedures.
  • Leave all valuables at home, including wallet and jewelry.
  • Bring your insurance cards and a photo ID.
  • Asthma patients need to bring their inhaler with them.
  • If your child is having surgery, feel free to bring a favorite stuffed animal or security blanket for added reassurance.
  • Do not smoke immediately before or after receiving an anesthetic. Smoking may interfere with the anesthetic and frequently produces nausea during the recovery period.
  • No gum or candy.

Recovery Period

After your surgery, you will be moved to our fully equipped recovery area and monitored by our anesthesia staff until you are ready to go home. Although the length of recovery varies, most patients are discharged one to three hours after surgery.

At Home After Surgery

  • Your surgeon will provide specific post-operative instructions regarding diet, rest and medications. If you have any difficulties, call your surgeon or his answering service.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours after receiving a general anesthesia or pain medicine.
  • Plan to have someone at home with you for 24 hours after your procedure.
